Losing Freedom: Where Has The Voice of Reason Gone?

There are a lot of arguments about how we are losing our freedom today. I don't agree with all of them but some I do. There is one that has recently got my attention and has me really concerned and upset. It is about 3 senior citizens that decided to stand up for what they believe in and are paying a huge price for it now.

Greg Boertje-Obed, Sister Megan Rice, and Michael Walli. You should remember these names, because they are the names of three people who are getting incredibly screwed by the United States Government and our "justice" system. These three were charged and convicted with intending to injure, interfere with, or obstruct the national defense of the United States and willful damage of national security premises in violation of 18 US Code 2155, punishable with up to 20 years in prison.  Counts two and three were felony property damage charges, with potential prison terms of up to fifteen more years in prison. So what did they do to receive this conviction? They trespassed in a Highly Enriched Uranium Materials Facility (HEUMF) and peacefully protested by hanging banners, spray painting peace slogans on the HEUMF and sang songs like “Down by the Riverside” and “Peace is Flowing Like a River.” When security finally arrived hours later, they surrendered peacefully and were arrested and jailed.

They were originally only charged with trespassing, which they rightly should have been. Over the next 10 months, the other charges were added and they have now been convicted with what Congress defines as crimes of terrorism. For the full story, you can read the article How the US Turned Three Pacifists into Violent Terrorists. They are set to be sentenced on September 23, 2013.

So now on to my take on this. What the hell has happened to our country? We elect politicians who don't represent us and only seem to become more corrupt by the day. Who is holding our politicians accountable? We, the people are suppose to be, but seem to be stuck in only worrying about our own lives. We have become so inward focused on our own problems that we have let not only our own country fall apart by corrupt and power hungry sociopaths but we have said to hell with the rest of the world. We care more about our pets than we do each other. Is it because our pets don't have an agenda other than loving their master, of course unless you own a cat. We as the people have turned a blind eye to our "national security" and just let them do whatever they want. We let innocent men sit in Gitmo and suffer the most incomprehensible sufferings when they have been ruled to be freed by the courts and then they die and who does anything about it. Our President said he would close Gitmo if elected and what has happened with that. NOTHING. So I say again, who is holding our politicians responsible for their actions? How far does it have to go before we stand up and do something about this corruption? It goes way further than just doing something about this. This is a mindset we live under and only a mindset can be changed with a mindset. I believe we as a country need to be educated on current events, not just here in the US but around the world. So that means we need better news coverage and less entertainment in the news. We value our entertainment way too much here in the US, which in turn distracts us from what is really important. So what can we do right now about problems that are ongoing like this one with Greg, Sister Megan, and Michael. We can call our Congressmen and Senators and Governors and hold them responsible. We can sign petitions like the one I have posted below, we can tweet about it, post about it and even pin about it. We live in the most technologically advanced age ever and we have no right to say, "There is nothing I can do about this." There is always something you can do and it doesn't take much effort. Please join me and start to do something. It is the only way things will begin to change.
